Over 165 tons of aid handled at Sarajevo International Airport

    After disastrous floods that had befallen BiH, the relief to flooded areas keeps arriving from countries all over the world. Sarajevo International Airport has been rendering maximal logistics support to enable beneficiaries to get the aid as soon as possible.
    In the period from May 20 – 28 2014 five shipments of humanitarian aid for BiH (166.313 kg of cargo) arrived by seven special cargo aircraft to which Sarajevo airport provided ground handling services free of charge:
    First shipment arrived on May 20 – relief of the Republic of Azerbaijan, total weight 25.145,00 kg, (one aircraft).
    Second shipment arrived on May 24 – relief of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, total weight 27.800,00 kg, (one aircraft).
    Third shipment arrived on May 26 – relief of Qatar, total weigjht 42.184,00 kg, (three aircraft).
    Fourth shipment arrived on May 28 - relief of UN World Food Programme, total weight 29.766,00 kg, (one aircraft).
    Fifth shipment arrived on May 28 – relief of Turkmenistan, total weight 41.418,00 kg (one aircraft).
    Sarajevo International Airport rendered all logistics support in order to speed up delivery of relief to the beneficiaries, all in accordance with the Memorandum on understanding and cooperation regarding protection and rescue, signed between the BiH Ministry of security and Sarajevo International Airport.
    The biggest contribution in realization of this humanitarian mission is attributed to relevant sectors of sarajevo International Airport (Air Traffic and Aviation Services, Cargo Services and Security and protection), as well as to staff of the Customs branch office Sarajevo Airport, Border Police Unit Sarajevo Airport, relevant inspections, etc.
